In May 2006, Florence and group of friends went on a Sunflower Mission workcamp trip to Vietnam. Upon her return, Florence committed to continuing her support of Sunflower Mission. Some of her comments are below...
"... What will sustain me as a supporter of Sunflower Mission is the belief that these children will only rise out of poverty with education. They have futures if their parents will allow them to go to school instead of working for the next meal. We met so many faces and so many names, so many hardships and so much resilience and resourcefulness. It was an amazing journey to make it to each and every school to meet each principal and to hear the students talk about what they dream to be one day. Of course, not all of them had a response for what they dare to be, but every once in a while, I did hear a little face say, "I want to be a doctor," or "I want to be a singer." "
