2010 VN Workcamp - Day 3

The team started to work at our 4 classrooms work site yesterday. The day started out in the 80 and got close to 100. The school is in a new clearing so there is no shade thus I decided not to bring in the kids during the day to keep them from the sun and, since they houses are sreaded out over a 2 miles radius, from having to make the walk in the sun to get to the school. I am still working on a way to bring them after the school yard is leveled.

We divided up the group into 3 teams. Joe, Dan, LaVang, and Nanhi on the medical team. The kids take blood pressure, interview patient and make notes for Joe. A YMCA volunteer, Cuong who was on our 2007 trip, tranlastes for Joe. The local also sent in a doctor and a nurse aid to help. We saw about 100 patients. Joe sweated buckets (I learnt this from Jonathan). We expect the same load for the next 2 days.

The rest splitted to paint wall and doors/ windows. We have a lot to do this year. everyone worked really hard including our young members Ryan and Cooper, Nguyen's 2 sons.

There are 2 toilets with water tanks on top and septic tanks. Right now the school runs a water hose some 500 ft to fill the tanks. They ask us to fund for a water well. I declined the offer.

Last night, Chanh and Nguyen took most of the kids to a nearby park to fly kites. This is a popular thing here with manykites in the sky and
a learnt art of handling your kite while avoiding other kites. The younger kids loved it. The four older ones, Zubin, Dan, Nahi and LaVang walked around and sampled food from street vendors. I guess they will also learn some time.

The beach here is lovely and the traffic is light. I will have to get the kids up at 5 am one day so they can go and enjoy the sunrise.

Nguyen has been really dilligent in taking picutures and videos. He will send the next batch of photos soon, right Nguyen :-)
