On April 30, 2011, New York University's Vietnamese Students Association (VSA) hosted it's first annual Semi-Formal charity event. With over 150 tickets sold and 200 guests in attendance, the student run club successfully raised funds for the Sunflower Mission and increased awareness about the organization to the NYU community and the local Vietnamese community. The event was organized by a small team of volunteers from our VSA with sponsorship from various local businesses, the NYU Student Health Center, and the Asian Pacific American Institute at NYU. Entertainment, provided by the New Jersey Vietnamese American Community Association (NJ VACA), included cultural dances, an acapella group, and a fashion show. Raffle prizes were given out through the night ranging from an Apple Ipod Nano to an Amazon Kindle. Given the success of this event, we hope to host it again in the future and establish a tradition of charitable giving in our club.
