Tan Thanh Binh - June 2005

vietnam educationTan Thanh Binh is the second elementary school that Sunflower Mission (SM) builds in 2005. This is a 6 classrooms project which was funded entirely by SM.

This school is also located in the Mo Cay district of Ben Tre province. Ben Tre province is about 85 km south of Ho Chi Minh City. This area is one of the main focus areas for Sunflower Mission to concentrate its support.

Due to the badly degraded conditions of the old school, in 2004 over 200 students were moved to an old rice storage shed to study and several hundreds more were scheduled to be moved to other temporary classroom facility in 2005. The community has requested the support from SM since 2003 and only until now that we were able to bring the school to the children here. SM funded the entire cost of the 6 classrooms and the local community paid for the land reclamation and fencing.

This project was completed with a work camp in June 2005. Up to 10 SM members and supporters paid their own way to visit the school. The SM team met with school and local government officials, teachers, workers and presented gifts to 150 students who attended the completion ceremony.
