Phuoc Hau - May 2003
With the help of our partner, Social Assistance Program-Vietnam (SAP-VN), to monitor and manage the construction of Phuoc Hau school, Sunflower Mission has completed a primary school for the children of An Hiep village. An Hiep village is in the Tuy An district, Phu Yen province.
Sunflower Mission funded for the construction of 3 classrooms and remodeling of one existed class room. The local community also contributed financially to the construction of the school, toilets and fence around the school.
Prior to the completion of this project, the children of An Hiep village were attending classes in "collective farm" storage rooms that were used to store fertilizer and insecticide. Due to the community's impoverished condition, they cannot build classrooms for their children. About 97% of the village's population is peasant whose livelihood comes solely from one rice crop. This village does not have irrigation systems; therefore, agricultural production is not stable and is very much dependent on nature. Their annual income per person is about 100 USD.
