On March 27, 2011 the Friendswood, Texas community came together for a single purpose: to raise funds to build a three-classroom school in Vietnam in memory of Eagle-Scout hopeful, David Manusov. The lively 16-year old was in the midst of raising funds for this project when he suddenly passed away from an epileptic seizure. In a show of solidarity, his family and friends decided to finish the project in his memory.
Two months and $25,000+ in donations later, the groundbreaking ceremony for David's school took place halfway across the world, in Vinh Phuc commune, Giang Thanh district, in Kien Giang, Vietnam.
It is expected that the school will be completed in mid-August and will serve the many children in an area which currently has no schools. Students walk 3-4 km to adjacent communes to go to school.
Upon the schools completion, David will be awarded the honor of Eagle Scout, posthumously. Sunflower Mission is honored and proud to be a part of this project and this effort to honor David's memory
