“You can’t change the whole world, but you can start with education.”
This SAS leader never received a Sunflower Mission scholarship, yet he has been volunteering for nearly 14 years.
Trinh Quang Thieu is a leader of the Sponsor-A-Student (SAS) Scholarship Program.
Unlike other leaders who were once SAS scholarship recipients themselves, his connection to Sunflower Mission began through a different path. While working at Texas Instruments Vietnam, he met Ms. Le Duy Loan, Co-Founder of Sunflower Mission. This led to his first volunteer trip in 2012 to Bu Dinh Elementary School, a school built by Sunflower Mission. That experience ignited a powerful conviction in him: education is the right path to transform lives.
The more involved he became, the more inspired he felt, ultimately leading him to become an SAS Leader, a role he has held with dedication since. As a mentor figure, he passionately guides and instills confidence in generations of students throughout their academic journeys.
Born into a poor farming family in Quang Nam, Mr. Thieu has always understood that relentless effort in education is the key to breaking free from hardship. He earned the title of National Excellence Student in Physics and continued advancing himself by studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering, later obtaining an MBA from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. Today, he serves as Country Sales Manager at Texas Instruments Vietnam, one of the world's leading technology corporations.
As an SAS Leader, Mr. Thieu's contributions and wholehearted dedication to supporting disadvantaged students have reinforced his deep belief in the transformative power of education. Beyond that, his story serves as an inspiration, motivating more and more people to join this noble journey, working together to create value and help shape the future of Vietnam's younger generation. As Nelson Mandela once said: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
