Crafting Memories

by Kim Diệu

Today marked the first official day of Work Camp 2025, and what a joyful start it was. We made a stop in Bát Tràng, Vietnam’s centuries-old ceramics village, and tried our hand at making pottery before continuing on to the school in Tuyên Quang.

I was genuinely surprised by the journey to the workshop itself. We wandered through narrow alleys adorned with colorful walls, where tradition and modern life quietly intertwine. Tucked between the bustling streets were ancient houses, quietly standing witness to generations of craftsmanship. With each step, I felt like we were walking through history—following the footprints of our ancestors and meeting artisans who continue to preserve the cultural soul of this place.

Once we arrived, everyone eagerly rolled up their sleeves and gave pottery a try, including me. Let’s just say… my creation was a beautiful disaster! But by the end, we were all joyfully caked in clay and full of laughter. The mess didn’t matter; what mattered was the shared joy of creating something with our hands, together.

This experience allowed me to connect more deeply with Vietnam’s rich heritage. More than that, it reminded me of the importance of community—how culture lives on through people and shared moments. I’m so grateful to be here, to learn, and to laugh alongside such a kind-hearted and curious group.

Here’s to the journey ahead. 💛
