It Takes a Village

by Thái Nguyễn

What’s the phrase? It takes a village to raise a child… and indeed, it takes a village to build a school for that child.

As I reflect on Day 3 of this mission, I can’t help but think back on the days before. I came into this work camp with an open mind and no fixed expectations. But as soon as we began our time in Hanoi, I was struck by the incredible level of organization it takes to manage, guide, and lead a group of over 60 people.

From Day 1, I was in awe. Everything ran like a well-oiled machine—from getting everyone on the bus each morning, to sharing delicious home-cooked lunches, to enjoying thoughtfully planned dinners—all made possible by the collaboration between the US and Vietnam teams.

Now, looking back on Day 3, I feel especially grateful for the small but mighty team I’m part of. We’re an all-women’s team assigned to Room #5, and every day, we show up with purpose, determination, and heart. I’m so proud of my little village of six.

Our motto is simple but powerful: “If we believe, we will achieve.”

Go Team 5—Đẹp Gái!
