STEM for Students: Bracelets for a Cause
During last year’s Work Camp, Sara Akerberg learned that the smallest act of friendship can make a world of difference. She saw that a gesture as simple as sharing handmade bracelets carried a greater expression of friendship—one that serves as a reminder of the connections that drive Sunflower Mission’s work. Sara was inspired by the connections that each of her bracelets represented to her, and she thought, What if these bracelets could do even more? What if the connection could be between opportunity and the students who need it most?
That simple idea evolved into a community-led initiative addressing one of the most pressing needs identified in our partner schools: access to technology. Many classrooms still lack the basic digital tools that help Vietnamese students learn, explore, and dream bigger.
How the Initiative Works:
For every bracelet purchased, one is gifted to a student in Vietnam.
Every act of generosity travels full circle. All proceeds directly support the purchase of classroom computers.
True to Sunflower Mission’s commitment to stewardship, less than 1% of funds are allocated to G&A expenses, ensuring donations remain focused on students. Our 2026 goal: More than $15,000 to provide 25 fully equipped computers for the 2026 Work Camp school.
Each computer represents more than equipment. It represents access to new ideas, digital literacy, and opportunities that can shape a student in Vietnam’s future.
Why Technology Matters
When students gain access to computers, they’re able to explore subjects beyond the limits of their textbooks. They practice skills that prepare them for modern careers and connect to a wider world of knowledge. With every bracelet purchased, supporters help remove barriers that might otherwise stand between a student and the future they envision.
